Root is an adventure and war game in which 2 to 4 players (1 to 6 with the extension 'Riverfolk') fight for control of a vast desert.

The infamous Marquise de Cat took over the great forest, intending to reap his wealth. During his reign, the many creatures of the forest regrouped. This alliance will seek to strengthen its resources and overthrow the rule of cats. In this effort, the Alliance can enlist the help of stray wanderers who are able to move on the most dangerous wooded paths. While some may sympathize with the Alliance's hopes and dreams, these wanderers are old enough to remember the great birds of prey that once controlled the woods.

Meanwhile, on the edge of the region, the proud Eyrie fighting have found a new commander who they hope will lead their faction to reclaim their old birthright. The stage is set for a competition that will decide the fate of the great forest. It's up to the players to decide which group will ultimately take root.

Root represents the next step in our asymmetrical design development. Like Vast: The Crystal Caverns, each Root player has unique abilities and a different victory condition. Now, with the help of beautiful multi-use maps, a truly asymmetrical design has never been more accessible.

The Eyria gather their falcons to take back the woods. They must capture as much territory as possible and build dormitories before falling back into quarrels.

The Alliance hides in the shadows, recruits forces and hatches plots. They start slowly and progress to a dramatic presence at the end of the game - but only if they manage to keep the other players under control.

Meanwhile, the Wanderer plays all sides of the conflict for his own gain, while hiding a mysterious quest. Explore the board, fight other factions and work to achieve your hidden goal.
