In Saboteur, each player plays the role of a gold-seeking dwarf or a saboteur who wants to hinder the exploration of gold mines - but each player knows only his own role, so that the excavations may or may not proceed as planned!
At each turn, a player places a tunnel card to dig from the starting card to one of the goal cards (or potentially far away, if it's a saboteur) or plays an action card to help or annoy someone. If the diggers manage to find the gold hidden under one of the goal cards, they share the loot there; if the gold cannot be reached before the package is exhausted, the saboteurs take advantage of it. After three rounds, the player with the most gold wins.
The Saboteur 2 expansion adds new role maps (boss, profiteers, geologists) to the basic game, new action cards (stealing gold, changing roles), and new tunnel maps with doors, ladders and bridges. In addition, gold seekers can now be divided into teams - blue versus green - and only those of the team that finds gold score a point - assuming someone finds gold, of course...
