The fifth major expansion for Carcassonne, Abbey & Mayor, adds 3 new types of wooden pieces, 6 abbey tiles, and 12 landscape tiles. Abbey tiles act like cloisters but do not need to match adjacent tiles and complete adjacent elements when placed.
Mayors can only be placed in cities, and their strength is determined by the number of pennants in the city. Barns allow players to score fields during the game, not just at the end. Wagons are placed on roads, cities, or cloisters, and can move to an adjacent open feature when their current feature is completed.
In the Mayor and Monastery expansion, traveling merchants offer their goods to the various towns and abbeys.
