Description

The aircraft's three-wing design allowed for superior maneuverability, which was essential for dogfighting during the First World War. Due to the triplane's purple color, Richthofen was nicknamed the "Red Devil" by the French during the First World War (this nickname was changed to "Red Baron" after the war).
