The game board is your battlefield. You have an army of men at your disposal and six bombs. Your mission: protect your flag and capture your opponent's.
Secretly place your men, bombs, and flag on the game board, keeping these objectives in mind. But remember, your opponent is doing the same, so you must plan your defense as well as your attack.
Once the armies are in position, advance your men. When you are one space away from the enemy, attack. You and your opponent declare your ranks. The lower-ranking man is captured and removed from play.
You control your units and risk your men in battles where your enemy's strength is unknown. The suspense mounts as your men push deeper into enemy territory. Move with caution and courage. The next unit you attack could be a bomb. And when it's attacked, it could "blow up" your man and take him out of the game.
The first to capture an enemy flag is the winner!
This game is similar to H.P. Gibson's (UK) game *The Attack* (1909) and is almost certainly directly derived from it. It's not exactly the same, but it's close (numbered pieces, the spy (of the same name) can destroy the strongest piece but only by attacking, flag, bombs, etc.). This game, in turn, is almost certainly inspired by the classic Chinese children's game *Jungle*.
