At the beginning of the 20th century, the Austrian neurologist Sigmund Freud established a revolutionary theory called psychoanalysis, linked to the study of the unconscious. As his work gained popularity, followers gathered every Wednesday in Freud's apartment to discuss psychology and the symbolism of dreams. This group, the Wednesday Psychological Society, marked the beginning of the global psychoanalytic movement. As a member of this society, your goal is to formulate new therapeutic techniques, develop your practice, increase your clientele, and become Freud's most illustrious contemporary. To achieve this, you will need to share your knowledge, exchange ideas with your peers, and publish your theories. And to stay in top form, you'll probably need plenty of coffee.
Unconscious Mind is a Eurogame-style strategy game combining worker placement, engine building, multiple roundels, and cascading effects. On your turn, you can place one or two Ideas (workers) on a central Meeting Table to access various actions, such as adding tiles to your player board, drafting and playing cards, and moving around the city of Vienna. The placement of your Ideas also determines the progress of your roundel's inkwell, thus activating a row or column of tile effects on your game board.
To heal your clients and interpret their dreams, you must use a pool of Intuition resources, managed through a multi-level dial. By exploring everything from superficial Manifest dreams to profound Latent dreams, these Intuitions will help your clients achieve catharsis. This is symbolized by the unveiling of transparent layers on the Client cards, revealing their special abilities and scoring opportunities at the end of the game.
Once the group has consolidated its reputation, the end of the game is announced and the member who has accumulated the most points wins.
