At the dawn of the 20th century, Austrian neurologist Sigmund Freud brought a revolutionary theory devoted to the study of the unconscious to the forefront of medical attention: psychoanalysis. His work inspired others, and soon, every Wednesday, Freud's disciples gathered at his home to discuss psychology and dream symbolism. This group, the Wednesday Psychological Society, marked the beginnings of psychoanalysis.
As a member of this society, you strive to establish new therapeutic techniques, strengthen your practice, increase your clientele, and become Freud's most renowned contemporary. To do this, you will need to share your insights, discuss your ideas with your peers, and publish theories. And to keep your mind sharp, you'll need coffee... lots of coffee.
Unconscious Mind is a management game combining worker placement, engine building, bonus wheels, and cascading effects. On your turn, you can place one or two ideas (your workers) on a central meeting table to trigger a wide variety of actions: adding tiles to your personal board, collecting or playing cards, or strolling through the beautiful city of Vienna. Where you place your ideas also determines how far you advance the inkwell on your personal board's track: this activates a row or column of effects.
To treat your clients and interpret their dreams, you must use insights, which you manage on a multi-level wheel. Explore surface dreams, with their manifest content, then delve into deeper dreams, with their latent content, to guide your clients to catharsis. Then remove transparent layers from their card, unlocking their special abilities and end-game points!
Once the group has sufficiently solidified its reputation, the end of the game is triggered. Whoever has the most points wins!
