King Ludwig II of Bavaria has called upon all the great architects to design his greatest achievement: a world-renowned palace. Only the best will do! Magnificent amenities, white stone, surrounded by water, with swans everywhere. Oh, and the Ludwig touch? All architects must design the palace together. The designer with the most influence will receive the commission to build it.
In The Palace of Mad King Ludwig, each player builds one room at a time into a single, gigantic palace. As rooms are built, a moat slowly forms around the outside. Once the ends of the moat connect, the palace is complete, and the player who contributed the most to the palace wins!
In more detail, this sequel to Castles of Mad King Ludwig shares some similarities with its predecessor, such as tile placement, room rewards, and the magic of seeing a unique palace take shape throughout the game, but the gameplay is entirely different, with no auctions, a clever end-game timer that graphically increases pressure for players as the moats slowly close around the palace, and a change in resource management with multi-colored swan tokens used as currency, points, and keys to new abilities.
