Night Soil is a very mature game about sanitation in Tudor London. Clean up the streets to earn a living under the cover of darkness! In this game, players run competing waste collection businesses.
By day, neutral workers may be sent to London to advertise, curry favor with local businesses, or improve their company's assets. However, crowds of workers tend to make the waste problem worse. At night, worker cards are used to carefully move cubes of waste through the narrow streets of London to generate profits and recruit workers.
Each player starts with a starting deck, and can purchase other unique cards during the day phase, creating a small personal contraption. Night Soil innovatively combines several mechanics: the game currency is victory points, workers are neutral and can be recovered during the night phase, a guild system adds to the strategic calculation, and the movement of waste cubes follows a common movement mechanic, where each movement brings you closer to your objective, while risking advantageous to the opponent. The whole thing is contained within a refined system of rules, and the game is highlighted by dozens of illustrations by artist Jesse Gillepsie.
