The first space shuttle ever built was the Enterprise. It was built by Rockwell International for use by NASA for test flights in the atmosphere. The Enterprise had been designed to be refitted and used for orbital flights. However, that plan proved too expensive, and it was decided to build a new shuttle called the Challenger. The Enterprise is now located at the Intrepid Museum in New York City.
