Do we truly have free will? Who decides this? Are we controlled by what we hear and see, even while believing we are freely deciding? Insider is a game that explores these questions. While communicating with others, you must find the correct answers to a quiz or uncover the "insider" who is manipulating the discussion. The insider will do everything to hide their identity while deceiving others.
Specifically, players are assigned roles randomly. One player is the "master," and they secretly choose a word from a deck of cards. (In a variant given in the rules, they can freely choose and write down a word.) The "insider" player, whose role is unknown to the others, will then secretly see the word. The other players are known as "commons." The commons then have about five minutes to ask the master yes/no questions to deduce the secret word. The insider attempts to secretly guide the commons toward the correct word. If the commons fail to guess the correct word, everyone loses.
If, on the other hand, the word is correctly guessed within the time limit, the master flips the sand timer, and the commons and the master have until the sand runs out to discuss the game and deduce the insider's identity. If they guess correctly, they win the game together; otherwise, the insider wins.
