Welcome to Paris in the year 2400! Technology has taken a huge leap forward: androids, indistinguishable from humans, walk the streets, and cybernetic implants have gradually become the norm. Artificial intelligence plays a major role in everyone's daily life and, for many, cyberspace has become as important as the real world.
The landscape of Paris is now dominated by a gargantuan translucent Dome covering half an arrondissement. Beneath it lies a complete private city, created and run by BelCor. Only the rich and privileged can live there, enjoying comfortable homes, unlimited access to water, clean air, and a controlled temperature.
Unequal access to new technologies, and a host of other inequalities, fuel social unrest that often escalates into open violence. Paris has become a popular destination for people from regions that have suffered catastrophic droughts, epidemics, and wars. However, this is not a promised land, but a ruthless world where the constant struggle for influence takes place at all levels, from large international corporations to political extremist groups and ordinary street gangs.
