In Agricola, you are a farmer in a wooden shack with your spouse and few other things. Each turn, you can only perform two actions, one for you and one for your spouse, from all the possibilities offered by a farm: gathering resources, building pastures, etc. You may consider having children to get more work done, but you must first enlarge your home. And how will you feed all these little critters?
Agricola is a turn-based game. There are 14 turns of play which take place over 6 stages, with a harvest at the end of each stage (after turns 4, 7, 9, 11, 13 and 14).
Each player starts with two meeples which can each perform one action per turn. The options are numerous, and as the game progresses, you will have more: each turn, an additional (fixed) option becomes available. Each action can only be performed by one player per turn, so it is important to do certain things with high preference.
Compared to the family game of its predecessor, many things have changed: the new action each turn is fixed, and the game has been simplified by removing stones and vegetables. As in "Agricola: All Creatures Big and Small", there are now buildings (which replace major improvements) that score points for remaining resources at the end of the game.
There are also no restrictions on buildings (or player boards). Finally, there are no more negative points or point limits, each player simply scores points for everything they have achieved.
