Description
Perseverance launched on July 30, 2020, on its way to Jezero Crater on Mars. Perseverance is equipped with a plutonium power source and various instruments to aid the rover in its mission to search for signs of life on Mars as well as collect data for future human missions.
Ingenuity, the 4-pound helicopter that launched with Perseverance, is equipped with four specially made carbon fiber blades arranged into two rotors that spin in opposite directions at around 2,400 rpm—many times faster than a helicopter on Earth. This is a separate experiment from the rover, intended to demonstrate the technologies needed to fly in the Martian atmosphere.
