A mutual hunt between a beast and investigators set in 18th century France.
It was in 1764 that the beast appeared on our lands and made them its own. A year later, its renown had spread beyond the borders of our province, and it seems no mortal will ever be able to defeat it. Under its assaults, the region of Gévaudan gradually descends into darkness.
To win, the Beast must kill at least 25 people before the end of the game, which unfolds season by season over 3 years. The investigator(s) must either stop it or unmask it by identifying its secret identity.
Each turn, a seasonal event occurs, the beast prepares its attack, the investigators move, the beast does or does not claim victims, and finally, the investigators inspect their current location.
Each investigator specializes in one of the Beast's identities: for example, the Bishop of Mende will be able to identify a demon, while the King's Envoy will more easily discover if the culprit is of human nature.
