World War II veteran Kurt Vonnegut’s first novel, *Player Piano*, was published in 1954. Although well received by critics and re-released in 1955, it did not achieve the commercial success he had hoped for. While working on his next novel (which would become *Cat's Cradle*), he had to supplement his income with other activities.
One of these was an original board game titled *GHQ* (General Headquarters). He designed it throughout 1956 and attempted to sell it to game publishers, without success. His notes on the game were archived and Vonnegut's *GHQ* fell into obscurity.
Until today.
*GHQ* is a fast-paced strategic battle game for two players. On a standard 8x8 board, players command infantry, armor, artillery, and the powerful airborne regiment, maneuvering to capture the opponent's headquarters. Can you brilliantly use realistic combined arms tactics and call for reinforcements at the right time to turn the tide of battle?
This first edition of GHQ includes deluxe wooden pieces and a 24-page commentary booklet featuring Kurt Vonnegut’s design notes to provide insight into his creative process.
