After The Empire is a worker placement and resource management game set in the Middle Ages. During each turn, called a season, players alternately use worker tokens to perform actions, such as gathering resources, constructing advanced buildings, and recruiting refugees on the common game board or in their personal fief. Once all workers have been deployed, players gather food from the surrounding lands, then prepare for battle.
During each combat season, invader cards are revealed, with a random number of troops and a compass attack direction. Only the wealthiest castles will attract the attention of larger forces and their siege weapons. You must repair your city, recruit and arm your troops quickly to stand a chance. The victor is the lord or lady who best preserved their fief and saved the most gold.
