In Terra Nova, players try to claim territories by moving control markers and placing fences. Each turn, a player must perform three actions, first moving a control marker, then performing two other actions from these possibilities:
move a control marker (the same or another) and/or
place a fence next to a control marker that was moved this turn.
Areas are scored once they are enclosed and contain no more than three landscape types. The player with the majority of pieces in an area scores points based on the number of spaces and the number of landscape types in the area, with a higher number of types being more valuable. Points are shared in case of a tie. The game ends when all areas have been scored.
